1 in 3 Buyers Come From The Internet

Old Media versus New Media. Its a battle that stirs up passionate debate but irrespective of whether you still like to curl up with a warm drink and peruse the newspaper or whether you prefer letting your fingers do the finding, when it comes to real estate, the stats show that more buyers are using the internet to source property leads.

In research released by the National Association of Realtors (NAR) trends in 2008 showed that the internet was the number one resource for buyers searching for a home. While buyers use a variety of resources, according to the report 87 percent of buyers used the internet compared with 47 percent using print or newspaper ads.

Buyer Profile

The report also found that eighty-seven percent of home buyers who used the internet for search purposes, purchased their property through a real estate agent. Additionally buyers are also placing increasing importance on eco-friendly features.

The topic of old versus new media and real estate has also stirred up some bloggers (see BHG Real Estate Blog and The Real Estate Bloggers) as a sample of those who’ve weighed in with their opinion? What do you think? Do you prefer old or new methods for finding a property? Or do you use a combination of both?
